Saw DP last week at the Barbican. The first hour was their weird Getty Address album played with an orchestra and a man on gaffer tape (honestly). Bit much for me as you can imagine. The second Bitte Orca set was superb though.
Below is the first taste of the band's mini-album with Bjork though, which should be great. The artwork is above.
Tracksuits, glowsticks and poppers at the ready! The new Rusko track Hold On is like a proper old school drum n bass belter. Except it has a member of indie heroes Dirty Projectors on the hook.
Jamie T returned with an album better than his (excellent) debut in 09. And like the Wimbledon boy's first disc it took a few listens to get into.
But once it clicked there was much to discover in the raps, shouts, screams and hollers. With nods to the Beastie Boys, Billy Bragg, The Strokes and The Clash the musical mish mash worked on just about every song. From the UK hip hop of Castro Dies' to the forlorn folk song Emily's Heart.
With layers and layers and layers of stunning production and lyrics that mean nothing and everything at once Kings And Queens is near perfect.
And then in no particular order...

Solange- Stillness is The Move (@ er Oregon Live) Beyonce's sister has taken a beat by Erykah Badu, a Dr Dre sample and sung Dirty Projectors amazing track over the top. Not as good as the original but it still works.
Kanye West- I'm So Appalled (@ Nah Right) He's back and angry. This is just a two minute thing taken from a new mixtape. The chorus is simply the line: “This shit is fucking ridiculous.”
I'm late giving this Brooklyn band a plug. Mainly because I wasn't entirely sure I liked the album (Bitte Orca on Domino) at first. But it's a serious grower and i'd now safely say it's one of my favourite discs of the year.
Stillness Is The Move (above) is more immediate than most tracks and is almost pop. The video is pretty unique too. I know nothing about the group but they remind me of a lot of Broken Social Scene. Find out more here...
