More Joy Orbison Goodness

I love this South Londoner and here's another of his tracks that makes you feel warm inside. This has a proper two step feel...

New Daft Punk

May have spoken too soon when I said Gorillaz was the leak of the week cos the below seems to be the first new Daft Punk song in bloody ages. It's the theme to the Tron sequel- Tron Legacy. Which isn't out till December, when I guess we will get the full DP soundtrack. Can't wait.

Clipse- Freedom

Two words: FUCKING BANGER

(Props to Hattie Collins and her blog)

Banksy Film Coming

Which could be really good or a bit shit. Although as always the graf' artist pre-empts those criticisms in this trailer.

Brixton Massive

Not sure if it's the Brixton resident in me or the hopeless romantic that loves THIS

Thom & Giles

If you're into glitchy basslines, freeform jazz or alt hip hop you should listen to Thom Yorke and Giles Peterson together on Radio 1 the other night. Thom talks about how Public Enemy's beats have influenced Radiohead, his love of the Hyperdub label and working with Madlib.

Leak Of The Week: Gorillaz- Stylo

So there aren't many big albums released as this time of year. Vampire Weekend seem to be the only one and to be honest i've never really got them.

But what does seem to be happening in Jan' is that songs from the big albums of the year are leaking online. Last week was M.I.A (see below) now it's Gorillaz. As mentioned before on the blog i'm a massive fan of Albarn and his fairly perfect cartoon band.

Their new album Plastic Beach features Mos Def (on three tracks), Barry Gibb, Snoop Dogg, Kano, Lou Reed and The Horrors. Just now the first single leaked- it's called Stylo and has Mos and Bobby Womack on it.

HEAR STYLO ON GORILLAZ SITE HERE

Love the bassline, beat and the general vibe. Kinda like Gorillaz megahit Dare remixed by Hercules and Love Affair. Bring on the album.

M.I.A Returns

One of the most important artists of the last decade releases her new album this summer. And soon after quotes given to Rolling Stone and NME were put out she leaked this song called THERES SPACE FOR OL DAT I SEE.

It shows that just when you think you know M.I.A's sound she switches things up. The Sri-Lankan born London raised lady is working again with Diplo, Switch and Blaqstarr on the disc. Find out more in this story that some guy wrote here

Clipse & Roots

What a stroke of genius it was to install The Roots as Jimmy Fallon's house band. Here's another great live performance with everyone's favourite crack rappers Clipse.

And you should definitely watch THIS Mos/ Talib/ Dirty Projectors vid

Miike Snow- Silvia

Love this tune and the filmic video. And if you had any doubt about the group's pop prowess check out this handy Spotify playlist. It shows off two thirds of MS's production as Bloodshy and Avant- who've made commercial bangers like Sweet Dreams My LA Ex and Toxic.

Top 10 Albums Of 2009 Finally

NUMBER ONE: Jamie T- Kings & Queens

Jamie T returned with an album better than his (excellent) debut in 09. And like the Wimbledon boy's first disc it took a few listens to get into.

But once it clicked there was much to discover in the raps, shouts, screams and hollers. With nods to the Beastie Boys, Billy Bragg, The Strokes and The Clash the musical mish mash worked on just about every song. From the UK hip hop of Castro Dies' to the forlorn folk song Emily's Heart.

With layers and layers and layers of stunning production and lyrics that mean nothing and everything at once Kings And Queens is near perfect.

And then in no particular order...

Raekwon- Only Built for Cuban Linx 2
Mos Def- The Ecstatic
Lily Allen- It's Not me, It's You
La Roux- La Roux
Speech Debelle- Speech Therapy
Bat For Lashes- Two Suns
Major Lazer- Guns Don't Kill People Lazers Do
Dirty Projectors- Bitte Orca
The Maccabees- Wall Of Arms
