I Feel Better

So while I was away this appears to be big video that came out. It's directed by comedian Peter Serafinowicz. I love this track and really like the JLS pastiche and the girls faces when their idols get fucked up. Less keen about the sci-fi elements.

Some people at the office suggested it's better than GaGa's Telephone. I'm not having that but it's definitely an above average promo.

Away

I'm off for a couple of weeks to Morocco so expect a lack of posts. Sure i'll bore you with talk of North Africa when i'm back though.

This is my favourite Morocco' related album: Blur Think Tank (Spotify Link)

Alright it's the only one I can think of- but it's a cracker and will get you in the mood for Spring. It was at least partly recorded in Morocco as Damon Albarn became more 'worldly'.

In related news there is a video for Superfast Jellyfish (from Gorillaz' near perfect Plastic Beach album) WHICH YOU CAN WATCH HERE

And you should definitely buy/ watch the Blur documentary No Distance Left To Run. I caught a screening of it at the cinema and it's one of the best music docs i've ever seen.

Will try to blog about some things that aren't Albarn related when I get back....

Shutter Island

Saw this at the weekend and can definitely recommend it. The story/ premise isn't perfect but the direction is superb.

Scorsese gets his Hitchcock on for sweeping shots in breathtaking locations. The costumes, production design and soundtrack are all great. DiCaprio is solid with Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo on form in support. One to see at the cinema.

New Lonely Island

Featuring Julian Casablancas- who looks very suave and cool. As usual. BOILED GOOSE.

Bowie Predicts The Future

Meant to post this John Naughton article when it first appeared in the Observer a few weeks ago. It basically says that David Bowie is a genius. Though there are few more words to it than that.

No really, it's pretty interesting.

And if you don't own Ziggy Stardust (possibly my all time fave album). BUY IT HERE FOR FIVE POUNDS. FOR YOUR OWN SAKE!

Gaga's Telephone

This is fucking excellent if you ignore the blatant product placement. Love the LaChappelle-like colours and Russ Meyer references. The same director Jonas Akerlund made a great film called Spun which is worth watching if you haven't already. I wrote something more thorough about the vid at the day job HERE

New Big Boi and Kid Cudi

Both these songs have been around since last year but it's great to see promos for them. Kid Cudi's vid references Michel Gondry and is enjoyably trippy. I love those girls in the OTT outfits and the cameo from production duo Ratatat.

While Big Boi's has a lower budget but is cool sinply because it features George Clinton. On a sidenote I wish BB would hurry up and release his solo album....

Madliberator

Never had Paul Morley down as a Madlib fan. But HERE HE IS raving about the hip hop producer/ rapper/ composer in The Observer.

Below is a recent favourite Madlib beat for Mos Def's Auditorium- which features Slick Rick too.

Medieval & Renaissance Galleries

Went to the new Medieval and Renaissance galleries at the V & A at the weekend and they are stunning. There are whole tombs, facades, parts of churches, fountains, statues and stained glass windows. All are pretty incredible, like the massive hall they are housed in. Find out more here....

LCD's New Album

Comes out on May 17, plus i'm going to see them in Bristol on May 2. I really can't wait. James Murphy is basically a genius.
Here's the tracklist...

Dance Yrself Clean
Drunk Girls *
One Touch
All I Want
Change *
Hit *
Pow Pow
Somebody’s Calling Me *
What You Need

And here are two of my favourite LCD tracks:

I reviewed Hot Chip

It is below.... LISTEN TO THEIR NEW ALBUM ON SPOTIFY HERE

Hitting the stage in their own backyard at 11.30pm on Saturday it’s clear not much has changed for Hot Chip. Which is no bad thing.
For six years they’ve been making consistently danceable and often heart wrenching music that’s always inventive.

Songs from their latest disc One Life Stand sum up their appeal. Hand Me Down Your Love has ravey synths, tender vocals and an insistent kick drum that drives everything along. When played live Joe frantically adds tambourine to the mix.

Other new ones recall 90s house. We Have Love has a UK garage bassline and cut up vocodered vocals. I Feel Better features a similarly euphoric hook- but with a typically unusual twist sees band member Al swap his guitar for steel drums.

On tender moments- like Brothers and Alley Cats - Alexis’ high and emotional vocals weaved perfectly with Joe’s low tones.

Of the Chip’s older material Boy From School is torn apart and reassembled to banging effect. Later the audience are anything but ‘laidback’ as Over and Over is played. Ready For The Floor is another back catalogue highlight and closes the set as ticker tape is launched across the vast old theatre.

This late night show certainly had a real club atmosphere which suited the six-piece, while assured performances like this will surely please electro-loving festival goers across the UK this summer.

New Foals

Those glitchy math-rock motherfuckers return with this more epic than usual track. I like it and I like Yannis's beard. He looks about 20 years older.

The last album grew on me and they are generally pretty banging live so i'm looking forward to the second album.

Get Well Soon Guru

Gang Starr man Guru is currently being treated in hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was a briefly in a coma too. I've interviewed him a couple of times and he was always friendly and a gentleman.

After falling out with producer Premier his music undoubtedly dipped in quality. But there are so many brilliant Gang Starr tracks. I'd reccomend THIS COMPILATION as a starting point, and of course the below banger. One of the best yet...
